I need to confess something.
I was a financial planner for years. I've held an insurance license and a real estate license for decades. I've sat across the table from hundreds of families and helped them plan for their futures. I've seen what works. I've seen what destroys families. I've watched people make one avoidable mistake that cost them everything.
And here's the confession — I haven't always made the right choices myself.
I've put things off. I've ignored warning signs. I've told myself "I'll deal with that next year" about things that couldn't wait. I've felt lost, scared, and behind — sometimes all in the same morning.
Right now I'm 62 years old. I'm a caretaker for my 88-year-old mother who has dementia. I go to the gym four days a week because my body is the only one I've got. I take supplements because my diet isn't perfect. I've been studying AI and social media while most people my age pretend technology doesn't exist. And I'm rebuilding my life from a place I never expected to be at this age.
A few weeks ago I started making videos about what I'm learning and what I've lived. I called it Better Choices Over 50. Not because I have all the answers. Because I believe in one simple idea:
At any point in your life, you can make a better choice than the one you were about to make. And over time, those better choices change everything.
I talk about money — retirement, Medicare, insurance, long-term care, the financial decisions that keep people up at 3am.
I talk about health — the gym, supplements, bloodwork, emotional wellness, and what it really feels like to take care of an aging parent while trying to take care of yourself.
I talk about life — starting over, loneliness, purpose, relationships, and the stubborn belief that 50 is just the beginning, not the end.
Every week I'm going to share one honest story about something I learned the hard way or earned through decades of experience — something you can actually USE to make your life better. Not a lecture. Not a sales pitch. Just one honest idea from a guy who's in the arena right alongside you.
If you're married, I'm writing for you. If you're single, divorced, or widowed and carrying it alone, I'm especially writing for you. If you're a caretaker, I see you. If you feel behind, I've been there. If you're scared about what's next, so am I some days. And that's exactly why I show up.
Proper planning prevents poor performance. But it starts with telling the truth about where you are.
Welcome to Better Choices Over 50. I'm glad you're here.
Let's figure this out together.
— Michael
P.S. I put together some free guides to get you started — a Medicare guide, a life insurance buyer's guide, and a financial checkup. Grab any of them at stan.store/BetterChoicesOver50. They're free because everyone deserves better information.
